As the devastation from raging wildfires continues in California, Burnaby firefighters are stepping up to assist ongoing supression efforts.
Burnaby Firefighters Local 323 announced it's donating $10,000 USD to the International Association of Fire Fighters Foundation (IAFF) to help first responders and their families.
The funding is being provided by the Marilyn and Alan Codyre Trust Fund, which was founded after Alan's death in October 2018.
"Thank you to all the firefighters and emergency personnel fighting these horrific fires," Burnaby Fire Local 323 said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
"We urge all IAFF locals to donate when they can."

The fires have destroyed thousands of structures while killing more than 20 people with more than 15 missing.
B.C. has also sent assistance, with Minister of Forests Ravi Parmar telling Glacier Media on Jan. 10 that the province would be sending roughly 32 BC WIldfire Service members.
"Most of the crews will be leaving in the next few days," he says.
Incident management teams and a ground crew will be sent.
"These are highly technical staff that understand wildfires better than anyone and understand the logistics and the operational side," he said.
A dozen of those heading south can provide aviation, operational and logistics support.
