A large mural of birds adorning the back wall at 4099 Hastings St. in the Heights is receiving funding from the city.

Burnaby council approved a grant of $1,653.09 for the project at a recent council meeting.

The grant was made through the city's mural grant program, which provides grants for half the cost of a mural, up to $3,500.

The cost of materials for the project - not the total cost of the mural, as previously reported - was estimated to be $3,3006.18, according to a report from the city's director of engineering, Barry Davis.

The full cost of the mural was closer to $10,000, according to Isabel Kolic, executive director for the Heights Merchants' Association.

That price included the cost of paying the artist, she added.
