Burnaby's holiday generosity has come through once again.
Nearly 22,000 people recently received blankets and warm winter clothing from the 29th annual Realtors Care Blanket Drive, organized in part by the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV).
The week-long initiative fell short of its $15,000 fundraising goal, but was able to donate more than $9,500 to local housing-related charities.
In Burnaby, LeHomes Realty (4737 Kingsway), Oakwyn Realty (4481 Hastings St.), RE/MAX Crest (#1-5050 Kingsway), RE/MAX Heights (#400-4370 Dominion St.) and Sutton Centre Realty (3010 Boundary Rd.) served as the local drop-off locations for residents to make a donation to the cause.
They were two of more than 100 real estate offices in the Lower Mainland that collected winter clothing items and cash contributions between Nov. 14 and 21.
The REBGV said volunteers then sorted and delivered the donations to the associated nonprofits.
"Many of our partner charities were stretched thin this year and desperately needed blankets and warm clothing," said Jennifer Quart, chair of the REBGV.
"Now, thanks to the efforts of our Blanket Drive donors and volunteers, these charities can better help some of the most vulnerable people in our communities."
The Blanket Drive has now clothed more than 500,000 people in B.C. communities since its inception in 1994.
