The City of Burnaby says it will conduct public and stakeholder consultation over the coming months to aid in the development of a “made-in-Burnaby plan” to guide the city’s actions on housing and homelessness over the next decade.
This follows the Mayor’s Task Force on Community Housing in 2019.
“Through the Mayor’s Task Force, we developed a vision of Burnaby as a community with affordable housing for all its residents,” said Mayor Mike Hurley, in a statement. “The work we are doing today moves us another step closer to achieving our goal.”
The Housing Needs Report will highlight the number and type of housing units needed in Burnaby now and into the future.
This report will inform HOME: Burnaby’s Housing and Homelessness Strategy, which will be a policy document that aims to address challenges and opportunities across the entire housing system, including reducing homelessness, said the city.
This summer, the city plans to consult with stakeholder organizations through surveys and virtual workshops. The Housing Needs Report will also be informed by what we heard about housing needs in Phases 1 and 2 of the “Your Voice. Your Home.” engagement process last year.
