Can't remember when to take the trash out? Burnaby has an app for that.
The City of Burnaby's My Waste mobile phone application was launched Friday to help residents remember garbage and recycling pickup dates.
The free application provides access to schedules, collection reminders, scheduling change alerts, lists of what is accepted at curbside, links to disposal options and customer service contact information.
"We are very excited to be making this app available for the citizens of Burnaby," Coun. Dan Johnston said in a press release.
"By enabling residents to separate food scraps and food-soiled paper products from household waste, Burnaby's food scraps recycling program is already diverting some of this waste from the waste stream, helping the city move toward the 70 per cent waste reduction goals it has set for 2015," Coun. Anne Kang added. "In addition to making it easier for smartphone users to access waste collection schedule information, this new app will also facilitate access to information about the city's extensive recycling programs, helping to further reduce waste and divert recyclables and food scraps from the waste stream in Burnaby."
The application is available for iPhone, iPad and Android phones and should be available to Blackberry users soon, the release stated.
It can be downloaded via the Apple App store or Android Market, by going to www.burnaby.ca/collectionapp, or by scanning the QR code on "City of Burnaby - my waste" ads currently on bus shelters, recycling containers, posters, the city's website and in the city's newsletter, InfoBurnaby.
