Burnaby man, 27, arrested in Ontario drug bust

Burnaby's Maxwell Goobie faces drug and weapon charges after police searches in Chatham-Kent, Ont. that turned up $500,000 worth of fentanyl, $42,000 worth of cocaine and a Taser.

A 27-year-old Burnaby man is in jail in Ontario facing drug and weapon charges after a drug bust in Chatham-Kent.

On Sept. 5, 2024, police executed two search warrants as part of a drug investigation by the Chatham-Kent Police intelligence unit, according to a police news release Tuesday.

Police raided a short-term rental property on Erie Shore Drive in Blenheim, Ont. and searched a vehicle being driven by the man renting the property.

The searches turned up fentanyl with an approximate street value of more than $500,000, cocaine with an approximate street value of $42,000, a Taser, multiple mobile devices, a digital scale and packaging material.

Maxwell Goobie of Burnaby now faces charges for possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon.

He is being held at the Southwest Regional Detention Centre.

His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 11, 2024.
