After the major shift in B.C. politics last week that saw BC United suspend its campaign ahead of the provincial election in October, Burnaby MLA candidates have been impacted.

BC United Leader Kevin Falcon and BC Conservative Leader John Rustad announced on Aug. 28 that the two had come to an agreement that would see BC United drop its candidates and allow the BC Conservatives to draw from a pool of incumbents and candidates.

Michael Wu, who was running for BC United in Burnaby North, has been selected by Rustad and his party to run in the riding.

Because of Wu's switch, BC Conservative candidate Simon Chandler has been moved to Burnaby East.

In a previous statement, Wu said he's choosing to throw his hat in the ring for a seat in the B.C. legislature believing his community "deserves better."

"I'm running to be the next MLA in Burnaby North because I want my children to have the same opportunities I have had in my life; opportunities which have allowed me to fulfill my dreams." the husband and father of two explained.

Wu has experience as a businessman in Burnaby and Richmond as well as an RCMP member as an Auxiliary Member, providing translation services in Mandarin and Cantonese for 17 years.

He also worked with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unite and other sections of the RCMP.

Chandler was originally announced as the Burnaby North candidate for the BC Conservatives on March 5.

According to the party's website, Chandler has been involved in law enforcement, military services and business.

He graduated from Trinity Western University with a Bachelor of Business Administration.

"Simon's commitment to enhancing provincial government services for Burnaby North residents is evident in his priorities," Chandler's party profile states.

"From effective crime prevention and enforcement to advocating for essential parental rights and reducing the cost of living, Simon aims to be a dedicated representative, ensuring the voices of Burnaby North are heard in the BC Legislature."
