Short biography

I’ve spent my career helping regular people access quality healthcare and better working conditions, in order to build good lives here in BC. I’ve been elected twice in Burnaby North and I believe that a Member of the Legislative Assembly’s
job is to foster community solidarity and make people’s lives better so people can thrive.

Why are you running for provincial office?

I want to continue my work as an effective advocate for the people of Burnaby North in the Legislature. I will continue our government’s work to build more housing, hire more doctors, and make life more affordable for people across the province by cutting costs for people and continuing to increase wages. I also want to build on my efforts as Parliamentary Secretary for Labour, where I led our government’s work on providing basic employment rights for app-based drivers.

What are the top three issues facing Burnaby today, and what are your plans to address them?

  1. Healthcare: We’re renovating and expanding Burnaby Hospital, hiring hundreds of doctors and nurses across the province, and building a new medical school at SFU Surrey.
  2. Housing: The speculation and vacancy tax has converted 20,000 short-term rentals into homes for people. We’ve capped rent increases to the level of inflation, built student housing across the province, including 445 new units at SFU, and our Housing Action Plan will build 300 000 new homes over the next 10 years.
  3. Affordability: Too many people are living paycheck to paycheck. We've reduced and frozen ICBC rates, eliminated the MSP, provided hydro rebates and kept hydro rate increases below inflation. We’re going to build 300,000 homes middle-class people can afford, keep ICBC rates frozen, and continue to drive an economy that provides the highest wage growth
    in Canada.

What is your housing situation? Are you a homeowner, renter or something else (describe)? Do you own your rental property/properties?

I own and live in a multigenerational home in Burnaby Heights.
