A 33-year-old Burnaby woman and a 25-year-old Burnaby man are facing robbery and unlawful confinement charges after an April 30 robbery.

The couple were arrested after a robbery occurred just after 1 p.m. in the 5000-block of Anola Drive, near the Holdom SkyTrain station.

According to Burnaby RCMP Supt. Derren Lench, a woman entered a business and produced a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The clerk complied with the woman's demands and called the police afterwards.

Eight members from the Burnaby RCMP Strike Force unit quickly identified a suspect through police intelligence, and on May 1, they developed an operational plan to locate and arrest the woman.

A Burnaby woman was soon arrested, along with a Burnaby man who was in possession of a loaded handgun.

Police have also linked the two to an April 10 convenience store robbery in the 2000-block of Holdom Avenue.

"We have seen a slight increase in robberies in Burnaby this year," said Lench. "Robberies involving violence are the top priority for the Burnaby RCMP and recently we have made some significant arrests. We are committed to dedicating resources to targeting this crime trend in order to continue to keep Burnaby residents safe."

The Burnaby woman faces two charges of armed robbery and one charge of unlawful confinement. The Burnaby man faces one charge of armed robbery and one charge of unlawful confinement.
