The Burnaby RCMP are looking for witnesses to help them track down whoever's responsible for a spate of tire slashings in northeast Burnaby.
According to Burnaby RCMP Insp. Tim Shields, police received calls just after 2: 45 a.m. on April 27 about tires being slashed on cars in the underground lots of four apartment buildings in the area between Gaglardi Way and North Road.
The parking garages are located in complexes along Aries Place, Centaurus Circle and Lyra Place.
"We received reports that 25 cars had all four tires slashed," said Shields. "By the time daylight came, we discovered that it was closer to 100 cars that had many, if not all four, tires on their cars slashed.
"This is a highly unusual incident because you have between $60,000 to $100,000 of damage, and you have the lives of 100 families disrupted. This meant you had families scrambling to drop their kids off at school or finding a way to get to work. This wasn't just a minor inconvenience for people."
Through a canvas of the neighbourhood, the police have narrowed down the incident time to between 11 p.m. on April 26 to 2 a.m. on April 27.
Shields said Burnaby RCMP officers spent most of the morning of April 27 dusting cars and looking for any clues to who might be responsible for these slashings.
"Currently, we do not have any suspects," Shields said on the afternoon of April 27. "We are looking for witnesses to come forward, and we are looking for anybody with video surveillance in the area to come forward."
"It's such a senseless act," said Shields. "We have reached out to the local high school (Burnaby Mountain) to see if anybody knows anything or has heard anything."
Shields added that ICBC has also sent out their investigators to help with the case.
Burnaby RCMP are asking any potential witnesses to contact Const. Ruggles at 604-294-7922 if they have any information on the incidents.
