Burnaby RCMP has released a police sketch of a man who allegedly made inappropriate sexual comments and a threatening gesture to three women at Deer Lake Park last month.
The women were walking together on Oct. 13, when the man allegedly approached them and made comments about the way they were dressed and then made a gesture like he was cutting his throat, according to police.
But there was no physical contact, and the victims were able to safely walk away from the suspect, police said.
“Burnaby RCMP is investigating this matter and has identified a person of interest in this case,” Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in a news release Wednesday. “Our investigation is ongoing, but we want the public to be aware that this happened and to report any similar situations to police.”
While the sketch is based on the suspect description from the Oct. 13 incident, police said investigators are also looking into four other incidents where a man with a similar description was also alleged to have made inappropriate comments to women near Deer Lake Park.
Those incidents happened between Sept. 26 and Oct. 17.
Burnaby RCMP is working to determine whether the incidents are linked.
“Our officers would like to urge anyone who may have encountered a similar situation to contact our investigators,” Kalanj said. “It’s important we hear from any other victims as our investigation continues.”
