Police in Burnaby are looking for dashcam video that might help identify the suspect in a New Year's Eve sexual assault.
The assault took place on Dec. 31 at about 6:30 p.m., according to a Burnaby RCMP news release Wednesday.
A woman was walking east on Brentwood Drive towards Delta Avenue when she noticed a stranger walking behind her, the release said.
The man asked the woman for directions before hugging, groping and trying to kiss her.
He ran towards Anola Drive after the woman pushed him away.
The suspect is described as a South Asian male in his early 40s with a slim build and short grey hair. He was wearing a light brown jacket and black pants.
The victim was not physically injured.
"We want the public to be aware of this incident and to report anything suspicious to police," Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Laura Hirst said in the release. "We would also like to applaud the victim for her bravery. She was able to quickly flag down a passerby and call police for help right away."
An investigation into the assault is ongoing.
Officers have canvassed the area for surveillance video and are now appealing for dashcam footage from Brentwood Drive between Beta Avenue and Delta Avenue taken between 6 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 31.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999. Quote file number 23-45611.
