A Burnaby Mountie and another driver were taken to hospital Wednesday night after a pick-up truck rear-ended a police vehicle stopped beside Highway 1.
The officer was investigating a file and assisting a motorist by the westbound lanes of the freeway just east of Kensington Avenue, according to an emailed Burnaby RCMP statement.
Just after 9:30 p.m., the westbound pickup struck the back of the police vehicle while the officer was inside, according to the email.
Police said both vehicles sustained extensive damage, and the officer and driver of the truck were taken to hospital for precautionary reasons for what are believed to be minor injuries.
The collision is under investigation, according to police.
