One school in Burnaby has seen seven COVID-19 exposures since the start of December – eight in total if you include one on Nov. 30.
At Deer Lake School, a local, private, Seventh-day Adventist school on Gilpin Street, a person who tested positive for COVID-19 was at the school every day in a single week, from Nov. 30 to Dec. 4, according to Fraser Health.
The Christian schools also saw exposures on Dec. 7, 8 and 9, with more possible once Fraser Health updates its website.
This follows four other Burnaby schools seeing COVID-19 exposures so far this month.
Someone who tested positive for the virus was at Moscrop Secondary School on Dec. 1, according to the Fraser Health Authority’s school exposures webpage.
Cariboo Hill Secondary School saw exposures on Dec. 1 and 3, and Byrne Creek Community School had exposures on Dec. 1 and 4.
Nelson Elementary also saw an exposure on Dec. 2 and 3.
Burnaby shattered a record for COVID-19 cases in just one week in December.
The latest data from the BC Centre for Disease Control show that from Nov. 29-Dec. 5, Burnaby had 238 cases.
That’s the exact same number Burnaby had for the entire month of September, according to the BCCDC.
New cases of COVID-19 also skyrocketed in Burnaby in November with 1,081.
That’s a jump from the 287 cases Burnaby had in all of October and 238 cases in September.
According to the BCCDC, Burnaby has now seen 1,938 COVID-19 cases between Jan. 1 and Nov. 30, 2020.
