Burnaby sending big team to B.C. Games

A total of 20 netball players will be carrying the zone colours for Burnaby at the upcoming B.C. Winter Games in Vernon this weekend.

A total of 20 netball players will be carrying the zone colours for Burnaby at the upcoming B.C. Winter Games in Vernon this weekend.

Julia Borghesi, Sophia Chen, Cynthia Emmanuel, Sharan Hothi, Prubjeet Hundle, Danielle Kyei, Valerie Lang, Stefanie Li, Michellie Lin, Gillian Marshall, Marlene Mazariegos, Kirsten McElgunn, Tara Preissl, Brianne Siu, Shelby Smith, Ashley Steele, Viginia Ukpabi, Megan Widmer and Christina and Lianna Wong are among the local players making up the zone 4 team.

Karate is also giving a strong local showing with a 10member team from Burnaby, including Milissa Chan, Zoe Fong, Cassia and Aya Kitaoka, Kieren Quan, Jai Sanghera, Panwan Sidhu, Joel Tai, Nicolo Wakelin and Alexandra Zaborniak.

Rounding out the 71-strong Burnaby contingent to the Games are athletes in the sports of archery, badminton, biathlon, figure skating, gymnastics, girls' hockey, judo, ringette, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing and speed skating.

The B.C. Winter Games run from Thursday to Sunday.
