The City of Burnaby says it has adjusted the garbage pickup schedule to keep its workers safe during Monday’s extreme temperatures.
“Zone 1A & 1B update: To keep our crews safe in the extreme heat, garbage & recycling pickup will happen more slowly today,” reads a tweet by the city. “We appreciate your patience and apologize in advance for any missed collections. Any recycling items not picked up today can be placed out again next week.”
Other areas of local government are taking steps to protect people Monday as temperatures are expected to hit at least 42C.
All Burnaby public schools were closed today and classes at SFU on Burnaby Mountain were also cancelled.
