Burnaby South MP and federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh is speaking out after former U.S. President Donald Trump was the subject of an apparent assassination attempt this past weekend.
Trump was hosting a campaign event on Saturday, July 13, in Pennsylvania when shots rang out.
Trump posted on his Truth social media site that a bullet pierced the upper part of his right ear. He was rushed off the stage by Secret Service agents.
A rally attendee was killed during the attack as well as the shooter, who the FBI identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.
Two additional people were critically injured, authorities said.
"There is no room for violence at any political event," Singh wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
"We must all stand united against political violence wherever it happens.
"My thoughts are with former President Trump and his family, as well as with the other victims of this shooting.
"And my gratitude to the law enforcement members and first responders who prevented further deaths."
There is no room for violence at any political event.

We must all stand united against political violence wherever it happens.
My thoughts are with former President Trump and his family, as well as with the other victims of this shooting.
And my gratitude to the law…
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also condemned the attack, saying political violence is never acceptable.
"I'm sickened by the shooting at former President Trump," he wrote.
"It cannot be overstated — political violence is never acceptable.
"My thoughts are with former President Trump, those and the event, and all Americans."
