Burnaby surpasses more than 10K COVID-19 cases

According to updated data, Burnaby has recorded more than 10,000 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in January 2020. 

The Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence Cumulative Cases numbers provided by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) show Burnaby has recorded 10,081 infections from January 2020 to October of 2021. 

Abbotsford has slightly more cases than Burnaby with 11,639, while Surrey has seen a whopping 41,675.

The Tri-Cities has seen 8,947. 

During the past week, Burnaby has seen encouraging news when it comes to its fight against COVID-19. 

According to the latest Geographic Distribution of COVID-19 by Local Health Area of Case Residence data for Nov. 7 to 14, 2021, the city recorded 72 new infections. 

Burnaby saw 74 cases from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6, 2021. 

The latest numbers are a three per cent drop from the previous reporting period according to the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC). 

Other Burnaby data released yesterday by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), both positivity and case rates dropped during the latest report from Nov. 9 to 15, 2021 while vaccination numbers continue to move slowly. 

Case rates are new cases per 100,000 people by local health area and community health service area.

BURNABY NORTHWEST

  • Case rate: Three
  • Positivity rate: One per cent
  • Vaccination coverage (first dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 96 per cent
  • Vaccination coverage (second dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 93 per cent

BURNABY NORTHEAST

  • Case rate: One
  • Positivity rate: Zero per cent
  • Vaccination coverage (first dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 95 per cent
  • Vaccination coverage (second dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 92 per cent

BURNABY SOUTHWEST

  • Case rate: Two
  • Positivity rate: Zero per cent
  • Vaccination coverage (first dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 94 per cent
  • Vaccination coverage (second dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 91 per cent

BURNABY SOUTHEAST

  • Case rate: Six
  • Positivity rate: Two per cent
  • Vaccination coverage (first dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 92 per cent
  • Vaccination coverage (second dose) of those 12 years of age and older: 91 per cent
