Burnaby updates when vaccine cards need to be presented at city facilities

Per provincial health officer orders, two doses of vaccine are required for some events

The City of Burnaby has issued an updated list of where and when B.C. vaccine cards will need to be shown for access at facilities and programs. 

On Sept. 8, the city said proof of vaccination would be required for entry at the following locations: 

  • Recreation centres (including ice arenas) 
  • Cultural facilities (including Shadbolt Centre for the Arts) 
  • Restaurants (Riverway Golf Course, Burnaby Mountain Golf Course) 

In a Sept. 14 update, a more detailed list was revealed, with the B.C. vaccine card now being required for the following: 

  • Events with more than 50 people (12 years and older) 
  • Arenas when being used for adult sport (22 years and older) 
  • Adult (22 years and older) sports, exercise (including weight rooms), fitness or dance activities
  • Dining at restaurants with table service (12 years and older) (Riverway Golf Course, Burnaby Mountain Golf Course) 

Per a social media update on Nov. 9, the city says proof of full vaccination is required at arenas for public skates and skating lessions for those 12 years of age and older. 

Support providers that are attending programs with participants will also need to show proof of vaccination. 

Vaccination cards will not be needed for Burnaby Public Library branches, where staff are available to help Burnaby residents who need help applying for the vaccine card. 

"As we have throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the city continues to follow the guidance and direction of the Provincial Health Officer and Fraser Health," a news release from the City of Burnaby said on Sept. 14. 

"Implementing BC Vaccine Card procedures is required in order to comply with legislation." 

As of Oct. 24, two doses of COVID-19 vaccine are mandatory to access the following services. 

  • Indoor ticketed sporting events
  • Indoor concerts, theatre, dance and symphony events
  • Licensed restaurants that offer table service (indoor and patio dining) 
  • Pubs, bars and lounges (indoor and patio dining) 
  • Nightclubs, casinos and movie theatres
  • Gyms, exercise facilities/studios and recreation facilities
  • Businesses offering indoor group exercise 
  • Indoor adult group and team sports for those 19 years of age and older
  • Indoor organized events with 50 people or more such as wedding receptions, organized parties, conferences and workshops
  • Indoor organized group recreational classes and activities like pottery, art and choir
  • Post-secondary on-campus student housing

The requirement is scheduled to be in place until Jan. 31, 2022, with the possibility of being extended.
