The City of Burnaby is urging local residents to go online to get important information about business licences, property tax and utility notices, and other payments if postal workers walk off the job this week.
Canada Post got strike notices from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) Tuesday indicating the union will be in a legal position to strike at 12:01 a.m. ET Friday.
"If postal services are affected, there may be delays in the delivery of important documents, notices, and other correspondence sent by mail," stated a city news release Thursday.
The city warned fees, charges and daily interest may apply for any outstanding balances even if documents are delayed in the mail because of the strike, according to the release.
As an alternative to Canada Post, the city provided a number of online options.
Businesses with expiring business licences or residents with outstanding balances can register for a My Property Portal profile.
Public notices will continue to be posted to the city’s public notice webpage every Thursday and sent out via CityConnect eNews.
