Burnaby whiz kid wins award for inventing these stress balls

He's nine years old and trying to help people with their mental health.

At just nine years old, Burnaby resident Denzel Onaba won the Entrepreneur's Choice Award from SFU’s Opportunity Fest 2022.

Onaba, who does his schooling at home, had a business idea that involved him inventing anti-stress balls.

“The COVID-19 pandemic left everyone stressed, so my idea was trying to help people relieve stress,” said Onaba.

The celebration brought together ambitious young leaders from elementary schools to university to inspire a new era of innovators and problem-solvers.

Onaba was not alone with the creation of his project.

“Many people helped me get this project off the ground. I want to thank my mom, dad, and the other young entrepreneurs who were also presenting in the event,” said Onaba.

The annual event is hosted by the Charles Chang Institute for Entrepreneurship at the Beedie School of Business.

Onaba was enrolled in one of the business courses at the college - that is how he heard of the competition.

The event was held virtually this year.
