A vigil for New Democratic Party leader Jack Layton is set for 8 p.m. tonight at the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Layton passed away this morning in his Toronto home after a second bout with cancer.
Burnabys Holly Page decided to organize the vigil following the outpouring of grief on social media sites like Twitter.
I just felt the sadness that was out there, and we need to be together, she said.
Page works for the B.C. Government Employees Union, but shes currently on vacation and organizing the vigil on her own.
The vigil starts at 8 p.m. at the Vancouver Art Gallery, and people are encouraged to bring candles and messages. There will not be any speakers.
