Burnaby's Brentwood Town Centre SkyTrain station has re-opened its south entrance along Lougheed Highway, though further upgrades now mean the north entrance will be closed.
The improvements to the south entrance include a new glass-enclosed staircase that will provide "better protection and comfort for customers," according to a TransLink press release.
There is also a new elevator for better access between the street and station concourse levels.
Now that the north entrance, by the McDonald's, is closed until the end of the summer, TransLink recommends customers access the station via the south entrance or the escalators, stairs and elevators at Brentwood mall.
There is no change to access for bus services, according to the release.
The upgrades are part of a project including:
- A new elevator from the ground level to the mezzanine level on the south side of Lougheed
- Replacing existing stairs with a glass-enclosed staircase
- Two new escalators from the mezzanine to the platform level
- Expanding the mezzanine level by about 560 square metres
- Doubling the fare gates on the mezzanine level from three to six
- Station technology and safety enhancements such as lighting upgrades, additional real-time passenger information displays, and CCTV camera and PA system expansion to cover the footprint of the larger station
