17-year-old Fernando Lu will be making his Paralympic debut in Paris.

At just 17 years old, Burnaby's Fernando Lu will have the chance to shine on the world's biggest stage.

After winning silver in the S10 50 m freestyle and bronze in the S10 100 m butterfly at the 2023 Parapan American Games, Lu will look to add to his medal collection at the 2024 Paralympic Games later this month in Paris.

During the Parapan American Games, he set a personal best time of 1:01.31 during the S10 100 m butterfly.

Lu is one of 20 Para swimmers that will represent Canada from Aug. 29 to Sept. 8 at La Défense Arena.

Katie Cosgriffe, Sebastian Massable, Reid Maxwell, Emma Grace Van Dyk, Mary Jibb, Philippe Vachon and Arianna Hunsicker are also making their Paralympic debuts for Canada.

“This is a team with an incredible amount of experienced, successful Paralympians who will be joined by a new generation of talented swimmers who will represent Canada with pride this coming summer in Paris,” said Wayne Lomas, Associate Director of High Performance and Para Swimming National Coach, in a news release.

Burnaby's Felicia Voss-Shafiq will also be competing at the Paralympic Games, representing Canada in women's sitting volleyball.

Voss-Shafiq also represented Canada at the 2016 games in Rio and 2020 games in Tokyo.
