A Burnaby defenceman will get to represent his country on the world stage.
Gabriel Guilbault, who currently plays for the BCHL's Penticton Vees, has been selected to represent Canada at the 2022 World U-17 Hockey Challenge next month in Langley and Delta.
Guilbault is one of seven blue-liners that will play for Team Canada Red in the tournament that will also feature two other Canadian teams (White and Black), Finland, Sweden, the United States and Czechia.
"Gabe is an upcoming elite defenceman, and this is a well-deserved honour in making one of Canada's Under-17 teams," Penticton Vees general manager, president and head coach Fred Harbinson said in a news release.
"I am confident he will do an outstanding job representing Canada, the Vees, and the BC Hockey League (BCHL) at the tournament."
Each team will play six preliminary games with the top four teams advancing to the medal round.
Team Canada Red will face Team Canada Black in its first game on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre.
Guilbault spent the 2021-22 season with the Burnaby Winter Club U18 prep team, scoring two goals and adding 18 assists for 20 points in 30 games.
He was also a WHL Cup champion with team B.C. last year.
