Canada Way is closed between Graham and 17th because of a crash between a school bus and car Thursday morning.

Canada Way in Burnaby is closed in both directions after a collision between a car and school bus that sent the bus crashing into a house.

Police were called to Canada Way at 16th Avenue at 7:55 a.m., according to Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj.

He said the school bus, with high school students from a Lower Mainland private school inside, had collided with a car and then crashed into a house.

BC Emergency Health Services sent six ambulances and other vehicles to the scene and transported 11 patients to hospital in "stable condition," according to an emailed statement.

Fire Captain Mark Forsberg told the NOW the school bus was "partly lodged into the outside wall of the house," but there was no one at home at the time.

The bus sheared off a natural gas metre, he said, but firefighters were able to shut the gas off quickly because the valve near the ground was still intact.

"Luckily it didn't cause an extensive leak," Forsberg said.

Kalanj said the cause of the crash has yet to be determined.

Canada Way is now closed in both directions between Graham Avenue and 17th Avenue.
