City approves grants

The City of Burnaby helped out Remembrance Day ceremonies with an in-kind grant of tents, chairs and a PA system for the services at the cenotaph at Confederation Park.

The City of Burnaby helped out Remembrance Day ceremonies with an in-kind grant of tents, chairs and a PA system for the services at the cenotaph at Confederation Park.

Council approved the grant to the Royal Canadian Legion branch 148 at a recent council meeting.

Other grants approved at the meeting included $3,000 to the Knights of Columbus of St. Helen's Church for its Save the Bell project.

The money goes towards the preservation of the 100-year-old iron bell at the church.

Council also approved a grant of $1,000 to the Mayors for Peace 2020 Vision Campaign.

The mayor of Hiroshima and president of Mayors for Peace put the grant request forward.

The B.C. Crime Prevention Association was granted $2,500 towards its annual training symposium, which was held in Burnaby from Nov. 3 to 5.

Senior's groups applying for 2011 Christmas Dinner grants are eligible to receive grants of $7 per person.

And a grant for $350 was approved for the Burnaby Minor Lacrosse Association, to assist with Matthew Shannik and Danny Spagnuolo's travel expenses to the nations in Ontario last summer.
