Don't kick off your Sunday shoes just yet -there'll likely be no dancing at the James Street Cafe and Grill.
Burnaby council did not support the restaurant's request to add a large dance floor.
Council made the decision on the recommendation of city staff at the July 25 council meeting.
The cafe at 3819 Canada Way requested an amendment to its current food primary liquor licence to permit a 400-square-foot dance floor with live music or a DJ on hand.
Burnaby city staff recommended support be denied because of the size of the dance floor, which would be about 17 percent of the dining area.
"It is the opinion of staff that the large size of the dance floor is not consistent with the approved restaurant use and intent of the food primary liquor licence," the report from the director of planning and building, Basil Luksun, stated.
The proposed change could cause potential traffic safety and neighbourhood noise concerns, the report added.
The Burnaby RCMP indicated it had no concerns with the request, according to the report.
The city provides comment on applications for patron participation and entertainment proposals to the B.C. Liquor Control and Licensing Branch, which regulates liquor licensing throughout the province.
