As officials struggle to contain the rapid transmission of Omicron throughout the province, Burnaby is seeing its numbers continue to soar.
According to the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) COVID-19 surveillance dashboard for Dec. 16 to 22, 2021, all four city quadrants are feeling the effects of the most recent and ongoing wave.
From Dec. 24 to 25, 2021, officials said provisional numbers showed 2,552 new infections had been recorded, which marked a new B.C. record.
During the 72-hour period, there were 6,288 new cases. The breakdown was:
- Dec. 24 to 25: 2,552
- Dec, 25 to 26: 2,023
- Dec. 26 to 27: 1,713
Case rates are new cases per 100,000 people by local health area and community health service area.
