After seeing drops in positivity and case rates last week in Burnaby, both have increased during the latest report from the BC Centre for Disease Control.
The newest data released by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) is dated for Nov. 16 to 22, 2021.
In other local news, Fraser Health declared two COVID-19 outbreaks in Burnaby over.
Yesterday (Nov. 23), the authority announced an end to the outbreaks at Burnaby Hospital and Cascade Gardens Seniors Community.
Despite that good news, Fraser Health has issued two letters dated for Nov. 19 warning of possible COVID-19 exposure at a Burnaby daycare and a dance school.
Potential exposure could have occurred at the SFU Childcare Society on Nov. 15, 16 and 17 while exposure could have occurred on Nov. 9 and 10 at Dance Express Inc.
The letters were shared by the anonymously run BC School COVID Tracker on Twitter as well as Facebook.
Staff and parents who attended the SFU Childcare Society on the three dates listed and involved in the Morningside 3-5 program must closely monitor for the following COVID-19 symptoms until Dec.1, 2021 (14 days after the last exposure on Nov. 17).
- Cough
- Fever or chills
- Loss of sense, of smell or taste
- Difficulty breathing
- Sore throat
- Loss of appetite
- Extreme fatigue or tiredness
- Headache
- Body aches
- Nausea or vomiting
- Diarrhea
Fraser Health says while self-monitoring, children and staff that do not have any symptoms are able to:
- Attend preschool/daycare
- Continue to practice good handwashing, maintaining physical distance and keeping social circles small
- Stay away from crowded public spaces and places where you can't easily separate yourself from other
If any staff or children do develop symptoms, even mild, they must do the following:
- Isolate away from others as quickly as possible
- Get tested for COVID-19 immediately
- Remain isolated until results are negative and symptoms have gone away
- If you do seek medical attention, you are asked to let your health care providers know by phone before arriving that you could of possibly been exposed to COVID-19
- If the test comes back as positive, continue to self-isolate
- Those that attended the Danc Inc. Express facility must self-isolate or self-monitor for symptoms based on if COVID-19 vaccination status
Fraser Health says if someone has had at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine more than 21 days before Nov. 9 or 10, 2021, they have to self-monitor for 14 days when last exposed or attended the site.
If someone has not had any COVID-19 vaccines or a first dose less than 21 days before Nov. 9 and 10, 2021, have to self-isolate for 10 days from when you were last exposed or attended the site.
Fraser Health adds people must monitor their health for symptoms for 14 days from when last exposed or visited the facility.
Self-isolation is described as the following:
- Monitor for symptoms of COVID-19
- Stay at home
- Stay away from others in the home
- Use a separate bathroom if possible
- Get basics such as groceries and medications brought by someone who is not in self-isolation
- Exercise outside is allowed as long as a two-metre distance is maintained
- Do not go to work, school or other public areas including grocery stores, shopping malls, fitness centres or places of worship
- Do not have visitors
- Do not share personal items with others
- Do not use public transport
If someone feels unwell, make an appointment to get a COVID-19 test and isolate until your results are negative and symptoms go away.
Case rates are new cases per 100,000 people by local health area and community health service area.
