Delays to Burnaby-New West SkyTrain schedules delayed

TransLink says a schedule change to Expo Line trains will happen Feb. 25 instead of Feb. 10.

Commuters who need to get to Production Way-University or Lougheed SkyTrain stations on the Expo Line will have a few more days before service is decreased.

TransLink's planned service changes, which will run Expo Line trains through Braid, Lougheed Town Centre and Production Way-University stations every 12 minutes instead of every six minutes, will now begin Feb. 25 instead of Feb. 10.

TransLink announced the change today (Jan. 31) in a press release.

TransLink said previously the new schedule is necessary to construct a new operations and maintenance centre in Coquitlam, near Braid station.

"The new service pattern allows for crews to work safely in the guideway between Braid and Lougheed Town Centre stations," said the original press release Jan. 15.

Some Expo Line trains will also terminate early at Braid station, instead of Production Way, before returning to Waterfront, meaning customers should be sure to check the train's destination sign before boarding. (Eastbound trains will now have three different possible terminus stations: King George, Production Way and Braid.)

"At Sapperton and Braid stations, customers should pay close attention to next-train destination signs, because both platforms will have some trains heading to Waterfront to maximize service frequencies at those stations," said the release.

TransLink advises travellers who ride through those stations to plan for extra time in their commute.

Service on the Millennium Line, Canada Line and the rest of the Expo Line will be unaffected by the changes, according to the release.
