Distracted driving may have been the cause of a car hitting a pedestrian early Sunday morning in Burnaby.

The victim, who was struck at about 12:20 a.m. at Kingsway and Smith Avenue, was taken to Vancouver General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Burnaby RCMP Staff Sgt. Dave Eidet.

He said the driver was distracted by a police car which had pulled over another vehicle. Speed and alcohol were not a factor.

"It doesn't appear he [the driver] was paying attention," said Eidet.

No charges have been laid but the incident is still under investigation.
