Police say an RCMP officer was struck by a car mirror during an attempted traffic stop in Burnaby Sunday.

A 24-year-old driver faces multiple charges after allegedly hitting a police officer with his car's side mirror while speeding away from a traffic stop.

Traffic officers were conducting speed enforcement near Deer Lake Parkway and Royal Oak Avenue at about 3:35 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 11), according to an emailed Burnaby RCMP statement.

An officer attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding, but the driver allegedly fled, striking the Mountie with the car mirror, police said.

The suspected driver was arrested a short time later near Canada Way and Kensington Avenue.

The officer hit by the mirror was not injured.
