The Crown has dropped two charges against a Vancouver escort accused of drugging and robbing clients in Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey and Langley.
Jessica Kane, 31, was scheduled to stand trial in Vancouver provincial court Wednesday, Oct. 25 on one charge of robbery and one charge of administering a drug to commit an indictable offence in relation to an alleged incident in Vancouver on Jan. 8.
Kane was out on bail at the time on multiple other charges, including manslaughter, drugging, theft over $5,000, fraud and extortion.
At the beginning of Wednesday's hearing, however, the Crown directed a stay of proceedings in the Jan. 8 matter.
B.C. Prosecution Service spokesperson Dan McLaughlin told the NOW Crown counsel recently concluded "the charge assessment standard was no longer met" in the case.
But that won't be the end of court appearances for Kane, who has been in custody since her bail was revoked in April.
She is next scheduled to appear in Surrey provincial court on Nov. 2 on charges of breaching a release order and trying to dissuade someone by "threats, bribes or other corrupt means" from giving evidence.
Kane is scheduled to appear in Surrey again on Nov. 23 on numerous other charges, including manslaughter, theft over $5,000, fraud and extortion, from alleged incidents in Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey and Langley.
The Burnaby incident is alleged to have happened on June 19, 2022, according to the court registry.
