Chicanes, traffic circles, traffic diverters, curb extensions, raised crosswalks, speed humps and an all-day 30 km/h speed limit are all changes being considered for Burnaby's Edmonds neighbourhood.
The City of Burnaby has embarked on Phase 1 of the Edmonds speed and traffic management study to better understand speed and traffic concerns in the area bounded by Edmonds Street, Kingsway, Canada Way and the New Westminster border at 10th Avenue.
"The goal is to enhance road safety for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists while preserving neighbourhood liveability," stated a city news release.
Phase 1 of the two-part study will see the project team focus on gathering speed and traffic-related concerns from the community until Oct. 1.
In Phase 2, the team will presents its findings and share the proposed speed and traffic management changes.
Implementation and construction will begin in 2025, according to the city's website.
Residents are encouraged to share their ideas and concerns about the area via an online survey by Oct. 1.
The city is also hosting two pop-up events this month:
- Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Edmonds Community Centre arts room (Room 202)
- Saturday, Sept. 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Edmonds Community Centre multi-purpose room 1 (Room 173)
