The City of Burnaby has won three awards from the Government Finance Officers Association.

The City of Burnaby’s finance department is a winner, taking home the “triple crown” of three financial reporting awards.

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) recognized Burnaby with the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, according to a city press release.

The awards recognize local governments that provide high quality financial reports designed to be accessible and understandable to the public and go beyond the minimum requirements of accepted accounting principles.

It also celebrates those that “evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure,” according to the GFOA website.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to our outstanding finance team in Burnaby,” said Mayor Mike Hurley in the release.

“They have shown exceptional skill and dedication in managing the city’s financial resources and reporting them in a clear and transparent way. It is an honour to receive these awards from the GFOA and to be recognized as a leader in municipal finance.”

The GFOA represents more than 20,000 public finance officials in Canada and the U.S. at all levels of government.
