The washrooms at Squint Lake Park are closed after a fire early Friday morning.

The washrooms at a North Burnaby park are out of commission after a fire last week.

Firefighters were called to Squint Lake Park at about 2:15 a.m. Friday (Oct. 18) for a fire in the bathroom building.

Acting assistant fire Chief William Dinsmore told the Burnaby NOW crews extinguished the blaze.

He said there were no injuries and no one was around at the time.

The cause of the fire is unknown, according to Dinsmore.

City of Burnaby public affairs officer Cole Wagner said the fire caused "extensive damage" to the washroom, and the building will be closed for the "foreseeable future."

In the interim, the city will bring in temporary washrooms, according to the Wagner.

"We are still in the process of assessing the building to determine the full extent of the damage and what next steps may be," he said.
