Maggot art.

It might sound gross, but the art and science of bugs have an important function in forensic research.

On May 6, you can learn all about how entomology (the study of insects) plays a role in local crime scene investigations, and how local climates and climate change affects the life cycles of those insects.

The event will feature “maggot art,” short talks and take-home activities, as well as showcase different career opportunities in forensics and STEM-related fields.

Hosted by SFU’s Centre for Forensic Research and North Burnaby Neighbourhood House, the event is part of the Burnaby Festival of Learning, a “free, multi-day celebration of lifelong learning,” which runs May 5 to 9.

For a full schedule of events, see the festival’s website.
