Close to 50 COVID-19 infections have been recorded at a Burnaby long-term care home currently under an outbreak declaration.
Fraser Health issued the alert for the Willingdon Care Centre (Cedar Lane and Birch Lane) on Sept. 27, saying one case involving a resident had been identified which prompted enhanced control measures to be put in place.
According to the latest available Weekly COVID-19 Long Term Care, Assisted Living and Independent Living Outbreak Report dated Oct. 6, the facility recorded 45 cases, 39 of which involve residents and six others associated with staff members.
Data is gathered and compiled from regional health authorities, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).
Under protocol, an outbreak is declared by a medical health officer when there is evidence found of COVID-19 spread from one person who has tested positive for the virus to another in a long-term or assisted living site.
As of publication (Oct. 14), there are 19 active outbreaks across B.C. involving long-term care, acute care and assisted or independent living facilities.
