Four suspects have been arrested and charged in connection to the 2023 Burnaby homicide of 19-year-old Ryan Nagy.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced today, Sept. 14, that four suspects have been arrested and charged in the death of 19-year-old Ryan Nagy in Burnaby last year.

Officers were called to the 7600-block 17th Avenue on June 29, 2023, at roughly 7:05 a.m. for what police originally described as a home invasion.

At the scene, investigators located a 19-year-old man associated to the residence suffering from life-threatening injuries, IHIT explained in a statement the next day, June 30.

The teen, identified by police as Burnaby resident Ryan Nagy, succumbed to his injuries at the scene despite life-saving efforts by first responders.

A second victim was also located with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Saturday,  IHIT announced the BC Prosecution Service officially approved charges of Manslaughter and Forcible Confinement against 20-year-old Ali Shamkhi, 23-year-old Rhoda Diabikulu, 20-year-old Ousmaine Keita and 20-year-old Rais Usman.

All four will remain in custody until their first court appearances.

“Our team worked diligently and tirelessly to bring this file to charge approval,” IHIT spokesperson Cpl. Chase Smith said in a news release.

“IHIT would like to recognize our partners at Burnaby RCMP, Coquitlam RCMP, Surrey RCMP, Abbotsford Police Department, and IFIS, for their assistance throughout this investigation.”

IHIT said no further information will be released as the matter is now before the courts.
