Louisa Tsang was the female winner of the Jean-Philipe LeGuellec trophy at the Royal Canadian cadet biathlon.
The 16-year-old Burnaby sea cadet won the senior award given to the female competitor with the highest cumulative aggregate scores from their individual races at the national championships.
LeGuellec is a former cadet who has competed at two Winter Olympic Games, including Vancouver 2010, where he posted a personal-best sixth-place in the 10-kilometre sprint.
Tsang, a Grade 10 student at New Westminster Secondary, won the cadet senior girls' 7.5-km pursuit, while placing second in the mass start competition. She also helped Team B.C. place seventh in the relay. Tsang, a petty officer first class with Fraser Corps 102 in New Westminster, defeated runner-up Jessie Gravel of Ontario in the pursuit with a best overall run time of 36:48.7 and nine of 20 targets in shooting.
In the 7.5 km mass start, Tsang was second to Ontario's Charlotte Nettie, who also placed sixth in the pursuit. Gravel finished in fourth place in the mass start.
Tsang was a recent winner of three medals in biathlon at the B.C. Winter Games, including a gold in the individual event. She also won the 6km individual event at the provincial championships.
