Free mochi-pounding event comes to Burnaby this weekend

Celebrate this year-end Japanese tradition at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre.

Get ready to pound mochi as part of the annual tradition at the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre this Sunday.

Mochitsuki, meaning mochi-pounding, is a Japanese end-of-year tradition.

At 11:15 a.m., the Vancouver Japanese Gardeners Association will hold a demonstration of how the rice is pounded into mochi - and guests can join in on the experience.

Entertainment will also include:

  • 11 a.m.: Chibi Taiko
  • 12:30 p.m.: Satsuki-Kai Dance
  • 1:30 p.m.: Judo demonstration
  • 2:30 p.m.: Vancouver Okinawa Taiko
