The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Opera are ready to take the stage under the sky at Deer Lake Park this summer on July 13 and 14.
On a weekend of world-class performances in the most beautiful concert venue in Metro Vancouver, the symphony will transport audiences to worlds both fictional and futuristic on July 13, showcasing the work of Hans Zimmer (Interstellar Suite) and John Williams (Star Wars Suite for Orchestra and Hedwig's Theme), as well as favourites by Sibelius, Dvorak and Mozart.
July 14 will see the third annual Opera in the Park performance, with classics including Puccini's tragic Madama Butterfly, Strauss' comical operetta Die Fledermaus and more.
"Every year, thousands of Burnaby residents look forward to the opportunity to see the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Vancouver Opera perform in the picturesque setting of Deer Lake Park," said Mayor Mike Hurley in a press release.
"Events like this help to foster a lifelong love for the arts and music – which is why we’re thrilled to be offering this event free of charge once again."
Both events will feature a number of food trucks on site, including Super Thai, Tacosaurus, Candy Curio and Rocky Point Ice Cream.
