Gordon World is running for school board with Burnaby Parents' Voice:
My name is Gordon World. I am 41 years old. And yes my last name really is World! I am proud to be a third generation Burnaby resident.
I am a local "ecopreneur" in the sustainable transportation field. I have a bachelor of Asian studies from the University of Victoria and an MBA in international business. I speak conversational Mandarin.
My wife and I have two children who attend Burnaby public schools. I have decided to run as a candidate to increase transparency and parental involvement in important matters.
One issue I take a very strong position on is bullying. As someone who was bullied at times when our family moved and I transferred high schools, I know first-hand what this is like. ALL kids, deserve an environment of respect and have a responsibility to respect others, including those who are different from them.
If elected, I will ensure that parents are brought to the table to consult in all important matters, instead of being shut out. Did you know that the district does not consider you as partners (unless you somehow "earn it") and believes your requests and directives to them about what your child is exposed to and taught are merely 'wishes?'
I promise to bring my business acumen to better utilize resources to provide the maximum benefit for your taxpayer's dollar. I will ensure that healthy debate will occur on important issues, with me on "board," I promise you that school board meetings will be anything but business as usual!
