Graham Murchie is running for Burnaby city council with TEAM Burnaby:

Graham Murchie is a seasoned urban planner with 30 years experience, in both government and private practice, advising communities on their future development.

In addition to terms as a planning director in Surrey and Port Moody, Graham has assisted businesses and organizations with strategic planning, goal setting and revitalization.

He has master's degrees in urban planning, and applied behavioral science; and a certificate in site planning.

Graham has volunteered his time in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, worked for social justice, and helped community groups pursue their vision.

He represented Burnaby on the North Fraser Port Authority for five years, and was responsible for the port's plan. He is a trustee in his church and was president of his strata association.

Graham is concerned that Burnaby has not kept pace with change in the region. Burnaby needs:

- A community-wide discussion about the long-term vision for the future. We must talk to people and use their ideas to shape a new vision for Burnaby's future.

- To involve residents in decisions about their neighbourhood. Area plans are outdated; everywhere in British Columbia except Burnaby residents are consulted by developers as they develop their proposals. Residents must help plan their communities.

- A council that listens to residents on taxes, energy, affordable housing, public transit, and crime. Council must go out into the neighbourhoods and provide opportunities for public input on important issues.

Burnaby is too important to leave its planning to the mayor and his New Democrat cronies alone. Elect a TEAM Burnaby slate and ensure a second voice on city council and the school board.
