An investigation into $10,000 worth of stolen cell phones at Burnaby’s Metrotown mall led to the seizure of up to $30,000 worth of stolen luxury items, including jewelry and high-end clothing last month.
On Jan. 7, Burnaby RCMP responded to a business inside the Metropolis at Metrotown mall reporting the theft of numerous cell phones, according to a police news release.
With the help of security video, investigators identified a suspect with a significant property crime history, police said.
“He was recognizable pretty quick,” Burnaby RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Kalanj told the NOW.
Officers executed a search warrant at the 59-year-old man’s Burnaby residence on Feb. 9 and found, not only the stolen phones, but a “plethora of suspected stolen luxury goods,” according to the release.
Police seized nearly a hundred items from the residence including jewelry and high-end clothes and electronics.
