My name is Jim Favaro. I am 50 years old, was born at Burnaby hospital, and worked there as an on-call cleaner for seven years while I studied at the University of British Columbia where I received my bachelor of science degree in biology in 1984. I now manage government relations for a biotechnology company with a Burnaby research facility. My family has made Burnaby home since 1986. I am married 28 years with two sons. My older son is completing a PhD in marine biology at Simon Fraser University and my younger son is in a Burnaby public school and plays Burnaby minor hockey. I volunteer with the Burnaby Hospital Foundation and the Campaign to Control Cancer where I advocate for better cancer care. I am a classically trained musician. I auditioned and was a volunteer performer in the 2010 Olympics closing ceremony. What a great experience!
I am running for council because I am not seeing the current council listening respectfully to citizens. During my 25 years of business experience and 18 years in government relations, I have found that the key to finding a solution to a challenge is to bring people together and to listen respectfully to each other. I want to see a return of collaborative civic government. I will work to sustain services by identifying opportunities that will enhance prosperity for Burnaby and our citizens. Identifying opportunities will be achieved by meeting with people, asking their concerns, and listening to what they are saying. I hope I can earn your vote.
