Letter: Former mayor Derek Corrigan cleaned up Burnaby Lake. It should bear his name

This former Burnaby resident and classmate of Corrigan believes it's time to put his name in bronze somewhere around the city.

The Editor:

Derek Corrigan should have a special place as a long serving politician in Burnaby.

Corrigan, in his school years, was a rugby player and played well in the scrum. It really was a school of hard knocks at Charles Tupper. He showed leadership on the field and off it.

I sat next to him in grade 11 in home room. He can still hit hard in the Burnaby City Hall. Never lost the touch.

We met again when he cleaned up Burnaby Lake by dredging it.

Then again when I recommended the rebuilding of the tram now in the Burnaby Village Park.

After looking at The Tram book on this Interurban car, it occurred to me that this car ran on the Burnaby Lake line from Vancouver to Sapperton in New Westminster.

I suggest we name Burnaby Lake, Corrigan Lake after the work to high school did by coincidence.
