Letter: How I think Burnaby should upgrade Central Park's ponds

This letter writer believes a second pond flowing into the first, as well as a gazebo and fountain can make the environment better.

Re: 'Unsafe': $5M 'complete overhaul' needed for Central Park ponds in Burnaby (April 5, 2024)

I was born and raised in Burnaby. I lived there for more than 20 years before moving to Richmond.

The pond in Central Park was for RC boat guys on the weekend, and still is.

The Canada geese are a permanent fixture at the pond; my whole life, I saw it become a feeding and breeding ground for them.

However, the shoreline hasn't changed in 50 years and the city is making a lot of bad decisions.

I think they should build a second pond beside the existing one with a fountain, so one pond flows into the other and then empties into the drainage system. The water will stay clean because of continuous flow in and out.

And to build a gazebo with concrete pad posts and a metal roof wouldn't cost $6 million or more for taxpayers.

If there is to be a playground, it should be on the other side of the parking lot where more picnic tables can be placed.

Parents will feel better if they are further away from all the goose poop.

Dig an out-flow channel from the existing pond, line it with big stone's and plants like a creek where it flows back into the cities storm drain.

Great solution.
