Letter: Pets and Halloween fireworks do not mix, Burnaby resident says

A letter writer asks if other Burnaby pet owners noticed strong reactions from their furry friends during the loud noises of Oct. 31.
Halloween and pets
Fireworks can only be lit in Burnaby on Oct. 31 each year. Is it time for a change for the sake of local animals?

The Editor:

As a dog owner, I was horrified to think of all the traumatized dogs and cats as the Halloween fireworks rained down.

I really shouldn't say rained down as it seemed the most popular version was firecrackers.

From my back door it seemed that every single house was letting off huge amounts of firecrackers.

I don't understand the mentality of those who get their kicks out of destroying the nights tranquility with hand held noisemakers.

A lot of these people must own pets and if they are responsible owners they surely would have noticed the reaction of their pets.

I fully understand Vancouver’s total ban of them. Maybe Burnaby should consider doing the same.

Since when do firecrackers have anything to do with Halloween?

Aren't they supposed to be related to Guy Fawkes? That takes place on Nov. 5 and who cares about that?
